Nose
This mezcal has a wonderful aroma of orange peel, baking spices, baked agave, and a touch of funk – as James Brown would say “Hit Me!” At this point, I am expecting this to be a delicious session mezcal for the summer.
Taste
Super easy on the palate with a nice rich texture that is bold in earthy and floral flavors that leads to a long finish that some would say is “smokey” but no, this is the char of the agave that ends with a touch of roasted beef. While the nose is more interesting than the taste and finish, I definitely see this as a bottle to share with friends at a party and paired with some tasty Mexican lagers, and of course tacos!
Method/Background
This artesanal mezcal is produced in San Dionisio from Maguey Doba-Yej, which is a colloquial name for Espadin. Produced by cooking the agave in an earth pit, milled with a tahona, fermented in wood tanks, distilled in copper pots, and bottled at 44% ABV, this expression was created as a product to be sipped or used in a cocktail and does a great job in both fields.
