Grace Rubenstein has a great piece in the Atlantic about visiting the market at Tlacolula accompanied by a nice photo gallery. It’s an experience you should plan for your next trip to Oaxaca. I went just to see the elderly women down from the hills selling live turkeys by the side of the street because that’s not something you see anywhere in California any more. The trip turned out to offer so much more because the market there is fantastic, especially the culinary elements, particularly the tlayudas. Of course there’s a mezcal angle, here it’s featured as a digestif.
