Cuttingly herbal, sage.
Taste
This bottle starts out round with rich roast agave flavors but finishes with a pert sharpness that recalls Sotol. It feels like it would be a perfect foil to food because it’s so sharp.
Background Notes
Mal de Amor is a project by the Hernández brothers who emigrated but came back to create this brand which features an extensive line of mezcals and the full palenque experience. This is their family brand, they also produce for Ilegal Mezcal. They offer tours but they also have a restaurant helmed by Gaudencio Ruiz who is another immigration boomerang story. Ruiz cooked in LA at a number of notable restaurants like Nobu before returning to his home to offer the full palenque experience.
