This mezcal is withholding and mysterious. There are flavors of leather and puckery citrus with a sweet cola tang at the tail.
Background Notes
Mal de Amor is a project by the Hernández brothers who emigrated but came back to create this brand which features an extensive line of mezcals and the full palenque experience. This is their family brand, they also produce for Ilegal Mezcal. They offer tours but they also have a restaurant helmed by Gaudencio Ruiz who is another immigration boomerang story. Ruiz cooked in LA at a number of notable restaurants like Nobu before returning to his home to offer the full palenque experience.
