Taste
The Mal de Amor Barril opens with a touch of lactic pickle juice which yields to a very stately body of leather and brine. It is very light on its feet and high contrast, the Tiny Dancer of the Mal de Amor line.
Background Notes
Mal de Amor is a project by the Hernández brothers who emigrated but came back to create this brand which features an extensive line of mezcals and the full palenque experience. This is their family brand, they also produce for Ilegal Mezcal. They offer tours but they also have a restaurant helmed by Gaudencio Ruiz who is another immigration boomerang story. Ruiz cooked in LA at a number of notable restaurants like Nobu before returning to his home to offer the full palenque experience.
