Nose
The freshest water you’ll ever smell, with a nice roasted agave background.
Taste
The Iónico has a light body but is full of that classic roasted agave flavor with a touch of mesquite and bay leaf.
Background
This is distributed by the same people behind Nacional and is clearly their entry into the cocktail market but, at $39.99 retail, it’s a real steal for cocktails and not something anyone will turn down poured neat. The amazing thing in today’s market is that the quality level of cocktail mezcals like Iónico has risen so dramatically – for a second there it felt like we were going to drown in a sea of overly smoky well bottles that had no identity whatsoever. Fortunately we seem to have landed on solid ground.
