Mezcalistas
The World of Mezcal
Carrizo means reed in English and can be used in two different contexts in mezcal. The most common usage is for the reed attached to the cuchara which transmits mezcal out of small chamber stills. Carrizo can also be used to describe the reed used to check the ABV of mezcal. More commonly venencia is the term used for the reed in this context.
Max co-founded Mezcalistas with Susan way back in 2012. Before that he was a journalist at Salon.com and The San Francisco Chronicle.
