Taste
Is this the grandmother in arsenic and old lace? It has a touch of that old lady drink, at least something my grandmother (and no, she wasn’t a mass murderer, she just had a touch of that twinkle in her eye) would sip. Yes, there’s star anise here, there’s no getting around that, but it explodes into a different dimension of spice. There’s a certain mustiness to it like the combined scent that you get when opening the spice door: Is that a hint of allspice and mace or is that just another element in the character of star anise? When I’m not sipping it neat, this is my new favorite mystery ingredient in a Sazerac.
Method / Background Notes
This is an infusion of star anise into the base of the Mazot Bacanora blanco.
