We had a great time at Mexico in a Bottle Chicago, even if we experienced all four seasons over five days (snow, really?). None of that detracts from the incredible time and in fact I am beginning to understand the crazy weather patterns there – total and complete population control for if not for the weather, I am pretty sure we would all want to live there.
Logan Square Auditorium was once again the scene for this year’s big event. The house was packed and every nook and cranny was filled with some sort of Mexican spirit or delicious food item. A huge thanks to Bar Sotano, Carnitas Uruapan, Old Irving Brewing, Dos Urban Cantina, Estrella Negra, La Josie, Quiote and Dove’s Luncheonette for providing such delicious bites and sips. Topo Chico kept us hydrated and Pilsen Outpost, Lit and Luz Festival, Instituto Gráfico De Chicago and muralist Juan de La Mora made the space come alive with their gorgeous artwork and artisan goods. And Moreno’s Liquors ran the bottle shop program, enabling attendees to purchase what they had been tasting. Big thanks to Tess Rose for organizing three great programs – from mezcal in Durango to different distillation styles to a presentation by Jay Schroeder and his new book Understanding Mezcal, it was quite an afternoon of information.
We’d also like to give a special thanks to the National Museum of Mexican Art which not only brought in a t-shirt press, but also so kindly donated space at the museum for our big Spirited Conversations talk on Does Big Mezcal = Bad, and to SACRED for being our Chicago partner in all things agave.
Finally, to the people without whom we would never be able to do the event – the participating brands and our volunteers. THANK YOU!

It was a pretty big turnout! Not only did Rick come but he also ended up working the Bar Sotano table with his daughter Lanie!
